Cities / villages

Over 200 villages in Italy have the quality mark “I borghi piu belli d’Italia”. This mark gives them the right to officially call themselves the prettiest villages of Italy. And pretty they are with their authentic atmosphere, cute streets, exceptional squares, museums and photogenic views.

Several of these villages are situated in Abruzzo: Castel del Monte, Santa Stefano di Sessanio and Penne (which is the village of our B&B).

Penne is a vivid little town with various shops, restaurants and bars. There are multiple museums and antiquities to visit. You can wander around the Viale S. Franceso, enjoying some delicious ice cream of the Gelateria e Yogurterie Conamore. (More about Penne: Tutto Penne – www.tuttopenne.com)

The cities Chieti and Teramo are also worth a visit. Chieti is an old town with Roman temples and divers medieval buildings. The city has several museums, for example the National Archaeological Museum of Abruzzo. Teramo is also a historical town. In the center you can still find residues of the Roman amphitheater. Other must-visit are the church Madonna delle Grazie or Cathedral San Berardo.

Another village in the nearby area is the picturesque Loreto Aprutino. In the old centre is an olive museum and make sure that you do not miss the Chiesa Santa Maria in Piano!

The lack of a historical centre makes Pescara a modern city. It has a lot of shops, and you can walk from the centre within a few minutes to the beautiful sand beaches with palm trees. The long promenade gives you the possibility to walk and cycle and you will find various delicious restaurants and beach clubs. There is a big marina and the international airport of Abruzzo.

The biggest factory outlet of Abruzzo is located next to Citta Sant’Angelo. It consists of more than 80 outlets of major brands and there are free parking spots. This is absolutely recommended on a rainy day! Citta Sant’Angelo is a beautiful historical little town located uphill, with a breath taking view over Pescara and the Adriatic Sea.

In our B&B you will find an information folder with more tips for visits to cities and villages in the area. Every town has its own parties, where they usually serve much more, besides delicious food. We will try to provide you with complete schedules.
